On February 24, 2022, following the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Vitaliy Kyrychenko voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He initially served in the 130th Separate Battalion of the 241st Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of Kyiv, taking part in combat in Kyiv and Donetsk regions.
